WooHoo! Darrell!

Today’s WooHoo! story features the husband of a dear friend of mine. Even though I know it is mostly ladies who read this, I know that we will make him feel welcome! Congratulations, Darrell, on losing 50 pounds! We are so happy for you, and so thankful that you have taken your time to share with us!

FtoH: Can you tell me a little bit about you?
Darrell:I’m 48 years old. I’ve worked for an eyeglass lens manufacturer for almost 24 years.
FtoH: What was your starting weight?
Darrell: My starting weight was 227 pounds

FtoH: What was your goal weight?
Darrell: To get my BMI down to near more normal, my goal is to weigh about 160 pounds. I’m 5’7″

FtoH: What eating plan did you use (for example: Weight Watchers, Atkins, Self, etc)?
Darrell: I signed up for Weight Watchers Online.

FtoH: Did you count calories? If so how strict were you?
Darrell: Weight Watchers uses a point system.  I started out with 41 points daily, as weight comes off, they reduce the daily allowed points. Points are based on grams of fat, carbs, fiber and protein per serving. Saturdays and Sundays I may go slightly off plan. I started with 41 points and I’m down to 33 points a day.

FtoH: What exercise plan did you use?
Darrell: Now that the weather is warming up, Lisa and I take a walk in the evening, around 20 minutes.

FtoH: Now that you are maintaining, has any of that changed (food and/or exercise)?
Darrell: I know I don’t have to keep eating until I’m full, and I try to avoid foods that I know will be high in points.

FtoH: Do you have anything you’d like to recommend (a product, website, workout dvd, etc)?
Darrell: Weight Watchers

You know, I never really saw him as heavy before, but I can sure see the difference in these pictures. I was losing weight when we meet in fall 2009, then gained a lot of it back. I’m still heavier than he ever was and am forever on the weight loss merry-go-round. I’m so proud of him and am officially inspired now! It helps so much having him go for a walk with me every night.

  • Lisa, now that it is getting so nice out (pretend the past couple days didn’t happen ;) ) It will be easy to get out there in the evenings! Every Friday I am hoping to post about/review a different workout as well. Most of them will be free on YouTube. Check them out if you want to sweat even more! :) I’ve heard it said that weight loss is 70% diet and 30% exercise, which means just changing your eating habits will show a lot of results! Someday soon you can be on here too! :)

We do go for a walk every night. It’s so nice to have someone to be on this journey with. He started in November and I was wishy-washy about it until the past two weeks. I had to be mentally ready, and now I am.
