Running with The Husband and a Pinterest Party!

Running the Couch to 5k with The Husband at the Softball Field

This new addiction that I have, working out, is becoming contagious. Last week The Husband decided to join me on this adventure.

Three evenings a week we load up the kids, and their bikes, and drive 5 blocks to the other side of town. (Yes, my town is about 5 blocks wide. And maybe 10 blocks long. With a population of about 800. Jealous?) The softball field has become our “running spot”. The kids play in the dirt part (what is that called? Where the bases are?) on their bikes while The Husband and I do Couch to 5k (C25K) around the entire field. The kids think it is great fun. They occasionally run/walk with us, and think it’s funny when they can catch us. This exercise thing is becoming a family thing. I think I like it.

When I first started C25K I really enjoyed it, but my ankles and knees hurt so bad for the first few weeks. I’m happy to say that I am now pretty much pain free. I am so glad I did not let it stop me from working out. Instead it made me push harder to build those muscles/tendons up. I’m finding that my endurance is building, my strength is building, I am feeling so much better. I can’t see any results, though. I haven’t lost any inches. I don’t look any different. It is very discouraging. But I guess that as long as I feel it, I will keep it up.

Anyway, that’s where I’m at right now. Hanging on by a thread with the motivation, but having enough willpower to keep going. I think that since The Husband has started as well, I may have him guest post once in a while… what do you all think? :)

    I’m blog hopping. I read Taylor’s blog, and Mindee’s blog, and was interested in your exercising. I just started the 30 Day Shred again (ha, I started it twice two years ago! I got about seven days in and…I don’t know, just quit for no reason whatsoever). I have done through Day 4. I saw what you said about being hard on the knees; I have wacky knees! I never even hurt them…they are just weird. So, I slightly modify the exercises that have to do with my knees…we’ll see how that goes. :)
    I like the idea you have for your blog! And I wanted to tell you that the dirt part on the field is just called the base paths. :) I love me some baseball, and have been learning about it for the last year and a half. :)
    Anyway, what you have written is really encouraging! Thank you!

  • Christina, I’m so glad you found me! :) I’ve learned that if I do the exact same workout for more than 2 days in a row I get bored and will probably not stick with it. Which is why I am now kinda all over the place. :) I still do the 30 day shred, but probably only once a week. And on level two (which is about 50 times harder! ha!) I also had tons of knee and ankle pain for the first couple weeks of working out. Now it is pretty much completely gone. I just made sure I did lots of range of motion movements with them… all the time. They eventually became strong enough to handle it. Base paths? They couldn’t come up with something more exciting? I like excitement when I watch sports. Running in a circle just doesn’t do it for me. ;) ha! ANYWAY, sorry for writing a book here. Thank you for your encouragement!
