POP Pilates with Cassey Ho

Cassey Ho Blogilates

For Fitness Friday today I want to share something that I found recently that I am completely in love with. Here’s the story.

I was doing the 30 Day Shred with Jillian and loving it. Then I pushed a bit too hard, and my shoulders got so sore I couldn’t lift my arms. So the Shred was out and I needed something else. Enter: Couch to 5k. Running. I forgot how much I love to run! I  did week 1 day 1, then went back to the Shred. I spent a week alternating back and forth, three days Shred and three days C25K, one rest day.  Then my knee started hurting.

The first couple days of week two I pushed through it. The pain got so bad I could barely get up the stairs to my bedroom. I knew I needed

Filled with LIFE after being Sick and FAT?

Fat Sick Dead

Not too long ago I watched a fantastic documentary on Netflix called “Fat, Sick, and Nearly Dead”. The movie is about a guy named Joe Cross who, literally, was fat, sick and nearly dead. He was overweight. He had an autoimmune disease, and high cholesterol, and was at risk for stroke and heart attack. He decided that enough was enough. The movie chronicles his trip across the United States while doing a 60 day juice fast.

After watching the video I started looking into getting a juicer, because a juice fast can’t be done on processed, store bought juice. It needs to be done with Fresh, Whole fruits and vegetables. And it needs to be mostly vegetables. It took a couple of weeks for me to find the right juicer for us. I went back and forth. I really wanted a

WooHoo! Andrea!

Mind over Matter

Today’s WooHoo story is shared by my good friend, Andrea. She is a writer at heart, so I will let her introduce herself to you all.

Hi! I’m Andrea and you can find me sporadically blogging over at my What Should I Wear? blog. When I’m not blogging, I’m a 33 year old stay at home mom to 2 super cute girls! They are the peanut butter to my jelly! I’m so blessed to spend my days with them. I’m also the very lucky wife to my studly husband of 11 years, Steve. He’s my best friend, and can’t believe how lucky we are to still be in love after all these years.

My weight loss journey began like many others: after having kids. I got pregnant in September of 2006 with our first pregnancy, which we unfortunately miscarried. After that stress, I had

Healthy Snickers Blizzard Recipe

Happy Kids From Healthy Treat

Ever since Tiffany over at The Gracious Pantry posted her recipe for coconut banana ice cream I have been making it. A lot. The Husband is in love with ice cream, as are my kids. Me, I could take it or leave it. I’d rather eat chips. Barbeque, if you have to know the kind. Anyway. Back to the ice cream. Tiffany’s recipe is so simple, and it is actually healthy!

Since I started working out I have been struggling to get enough protein. And I have a big ole bag of chocolate protein powder in my cabinet.  I’ve seen recipes for chocolate banana ice cream, by adding cocoa powder. And I wondered what it would be like if instead of cocoa I added the protein powder. Then, after I added the protein powder I looked around and saw a jar of almonds on

Bucket List of Health

fitness-bucket-list

Over the past few months I have learned that if you want to get anywhere in life you have to set specific goals. I can’t just say “I want to be healthy” and then eventually get there. I need specific things to work towards.

When I saw this photo on Pinterest it clicked. I’m not going to one day wake up and be healthy. I’m not going to have a specific time that I can cross it off my list. I have to have a bucket list of things that I can  cross off. I’ve spent some time thinking about my health-journey bucket list. I’m sure that I will continue to add to this list, and I probably will blog about it again as I cross stuff off.

So what’s on my list? Here are the things I have

30 Day Shred by Jillian Michaels

30 Day Shred by Jillian Michaels

Last week I was a couch potato. I spent maybe 10 minutes a day total “working out”, meaning running after kids, going up the stairs to the second floor of my home, etc. Not really a workout, but at least a smidge of movement.

Then the snow melted. I spent 1/2 hour raking the leaves up from my front lawn. Let me tell you, I thought I was going to die. Now, I’m 5’4″ and 135 pounds. A bit overweight, but not enough that I ever worried about it. I thought I was fine. I was healthy enough. WRONG! There is nothing, anywhere, that says you should feel almost dead from raking leaves for 30 minutes! I am so out of shape it is pathetic!

I’ve reached my aha moment. It’s on. I decided I wasn’t  going to ease into it. If I’m

My Favorite Lover

My Favorite Lover

I met The Husband when I worked in a coffeehouse. It was there that my love affair began. No, not with The Husband. That happened later, since he was dating a coworker. I’m talking about coffee. Some may say it is an addiction, but I choose to say that it is a love. Some nights I go to bed for no other reason than knowing I can have a hot cup of coffee when I wake up.

I have downgraded from coffeehouse coffee, though. Who has $4.50 to spend on coffee every day? Certainly not me (and really, I never did. One of the perks of works in the coffeehouse was all free coffee I wanted).

My drink of choice back then was a double short caramel vanilla latte. Let me break that down for those of you who don’t know the lingo.

WooHoo! Josette!

Weight Lifting

For our very first ever WooHoo! Wednesday, we are joined by a personal friend of mine. She has been my inspiration throughout the process of beginning my new, healthy, life. When I grow up I want to be just like her. Please welcome my girl, Josette!

FtoH: Can you tell us a little bit about you? Josette: I’m a 34 your old SAHM to four kids. I used to be in pretty good shape before I had my last three kids. A combination of quitting smoking and having babies back to back to back and not losing any weight in between caused me to gain around 100 pounds.  My first attempt at losing weight took place in 2009. I was pretty successful with it. I lost 90 pounds and was happy with my weight but it didn’t last long. I didn’t learn a very

Fruit Loops and Honesty

Fruit Loops

Okay. Remember when I told you that I was going to be honest? Well, here it is. I suck. A week ago I talked about how I Eat Clean. Except for yesterday morning. Apparently everything that I know about health was thrown out the window when I ate the bowl of Fruit Loops. I don’t even like Fruit Loops. I never buy junk like that.

But last weekend we took a 5 hour drive to visit my parents (5 hours in the car with three small children… ever tried it? No? lucky you!). So it was time to come home from my parents house and the drive started right at snack time. In a very quick last ditch effort we stopped at the grocery store and grabbed the first thing we saw. It was already getting late and we just wanted to be home, we didn’t

The Early Bird Gets The Worm (or in this case, the healthy body)

Early Bird Gets the Worm

I’ve learned that I always need to work out early. The later the clock gets, the less motivated I am to start working out. I start getting into projects, or the kids want me to play with them. Or I get sucked into Facebook or Pinterest…

However, if I wake up, get Book Girl off to school, and immediately start my workout it goes much better. I may still be tired, I may still not “feel” like it, but if I push through and just start, before I know it I am done.

THEN I get to have my shower and a coffee. Except, if I’m really honest (and I told you I would be, remember?) I don’t always get my shower. That’s right. Some (read: most) days I just change out of my sweaty clothes into the semi-clean clothes

Welcome!

From Fat to Healthy

Welcome to From FAT To Healthy!  I want to use this first post to introduce myself a bit and fill you in on what you can expect from me.

My name is Amanda. I’m a wife of 8 years and a mom to three beautiful kiddos; ages 7, 4, and 2. The Husband is a business man while I stay home with the kids (and try to keep my sanity). My oldest, Book Girl, is in 2nd grade at a charter school. My middle child, Zip Girl, is in preschool. And the baby is my son, Busy Boy.

After my kids were born (all by c-section) I never really did anything to “get my body back”. I just let nature take its course. On its own, my body has come to within 10 pounds of my pre-pregnancy weight. I’ve never counted a calorie, and
