Filled with LIFE after being Sick and FAT?

Fat Sick Dead

Not too long ago I watched a fantastic documentary on Netflix called “Fat, Sick, and Nearly Dead”. The movie is about a guy named Joe Cross who, literally, was fat, sick and nearly dead. He was overweight. He had an autoimmune disease, and high cholesterol, and was at risk for stroke and heart attack. He decided that enough was enough. The movie chronicles his trip across the United States while doing a 60 day juice fast.

After watching the video I started looking into getting a juicer, because a juice fast can’t be done on processed, store bought juice. It needs to be done with Fresh, Whole fruits and vegetables. And it needs to be mostly vegetables. It took a couple of weeks for me to find the right juicer for us. I went back and forth. I really wanted a masticating juicer, but those things are expensive! I don’t have $400 to spend on one. So I had to go with a centrifuge juicer. I found a great sale and ended up getting one very similar to the one that Joe uses in his movie, which is made by Breville.

I then did an internet search for juice recipes, and found a blog called My Juice Cleanse with many recipes. The first one she posts is the one that Joe used. I have to tell you, this makes a lot of juice! I put it in a 1 qt canning jar, and it was filled to the top. The Husband guzzled his down in about 30 seconds, and I sipped on mine for almost 2 hours.

I have read that going on a juice cleanse makes you feel weak and sick the first few days, and I know that with my crazy life I couldn’t do that. So we decided to just switch out lunch for juice every day. Even doing it just that small amount, I was amazed at the changes I felt immediately. My muscles were sore! I felt like I was working out, but I wasn’t yet at that point. My stomach would go from being full, to feeling empty, to feeling sick, to being starving… all in a matter of 10 minutes. It was very confused at what was going on!

Here is how juicing works. You take your fresh vegetables and juices, and you extract all of the fiber. But all of the nutrients remain in the juice. Your body is getting a huge about of plant nutrients, without needing to digest anything (because there is nothing solid that needs digested). Your digestive tract kicks in, though, because there is something in your stomach. It ends up pulling out toxins and eliminating them, which causes weight loss and health! With nothing but plants! Can’t get any better than that, right?

I’ll be honest and say that I don’t do it every day. It’s expensive, especially when it is for two people. I do it as often as I can afford to, though. If you are looking for a way to boost your health, I definitely recommend juicing!

Here is the recipe for the green juice that Joe uses in his juice fast, as found on his website The Reboot Program. This is the one I have made the most, and love it!
