Over the past few months I have learned that if you want to get anywhere in life you have to set specific goals. I can’t just say “I want to be healthy” and then eventually get there. I need specific things to work towards.
When I saw this photo on Pinterest it clicked. I’m not going to one day wake up and be healthy. I’m not going to have a specific time that I can cross it off my list. I have to have a bucket list of things that I can cross off. I’ve spent some time thinking about my health-journey bucket list. I’m sure that I will continue to add to this list, and I probably will blog about it again as I cross stuff off.
So what’s on my list? Here are the things I have come up with so far, and the things I am doing to work towards those goals. Because goals without action mean nothing.
I want to run a 5K.
I had an uncle that I was very close to. He was one of my best friends. He showed me courage, strength, and unwavering faith in God. He was an example of how I want to live my life as a person. He died on June 14, 2010 to a horrible disease called Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis. It is often called Lou Gherig’s Disease, after a baseball player who died from it. Les was diagnosed when he was 19 years old and given 5 years maximum to live. He was 39 when he died. Clearly they don’t know very much about this disease. Growing up seeing my uncle’s body slowly wasting away while his mental clarity, inner strength, and faith thrived has impacted me for my entire life. I was never able to do anything to help him while he was alive, but I want to do what I can to help others who are living with this horrible disease.
Which brings me back to the 5K. I’ve learned recently that there is a 5K run which benefits the Emory ALS Center. THIS is the run I want to do. This year it takes place in the beginning of May, so I know that I won’t be able to do it this time. But next year, it’s on! If anyone is interested in going to GA next year and doing the ALS Run For Life with me, I would love to have you join me! Send me an email or leave me a comment.
I want to do a push up. A real push up, not a girl one. I can do over 25 girl ones in a row, but that is nothing to be proud of (even though 2 weeks ago I couldn’t even do that!) I want to be able to do 25 real ones.
I want to be able to do an entire P90X Video. Any one will do, but preferably all of them. I tried the core one once and could barely get through the warm up. Sheesh.
I want to do a triathlon.
I want to Eat Clean 100% of the time. This will probably be my hardest goal to reach, sadly.
So that is my list as of now. As I get healthier and think of more things I want to accomplish I will update.
What’s on your list? Anything we could set up as a team and work towards together? Working out is more fun with friends!
Smile and have a great day!
